Capped composite decking has an inner core made from a combination of recycled wood and plastic. Boards are \u201ccapped\u201d with a plastic coating to resist moisture infiltration and help prevent mold and mildew.<\/p>\n

  • Costs less than PVC decking<\/li>\n
  • Resembles the beauty of natural wood<\/li>\n
  • Doesn\u2019t require sanding, staining, or sealing<\/li>\n
  • Resists mold, mildew, splitting, splintering, staining, scratching, and fading<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Cons<\/b><\/h4>\n

    • Absorbs and retains heat from the summer sun more than wood or PVC decking does<\/li>\n
    • More difficult to work with (e.g., heavier to carry; pre-drilling required because face-screws aren\u2019t recommended)<\/li>\n
    • More susceptible to moisture than PVC (not recommended for decks close to pools, hot tubs, or natural water sources)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      PVC Decking<\/b><\/h3>\n

      PVC decking is made entirely from plastic (polyvinyl chloride).<\/p>\n
